Google Begins To Roll out Ad Updates, And a Bigger Font
We’ve noticed over the past few days that Google are beginning to roll out updates to some of their key elements. For us it keeps appearing and disappearing and only shows under certain user accounts, but it’s definitely getting more frequent.
The sponsored ads that appear at the top and side of results currently sit on a dim yellow background. With the update the ads are on a white background but have a big glaring yellow ‘Ad’ bubble next to them:
This change certainly makes them more obvious. In the past, especially when viewing on a dim monitor, it was sometimes difficult to distinguish between the actual results and the sponsored ads.
From the screenshot above you might also notice that the blue title link has been changed too. It’s been upsized from 16 pixels to 18 pixels, and on top this, has also lost the underscore. For me this makes the title a lot more readable.
We’ll be keeping an eye on these changes over the next few weeks to see if they make it into the mainstream or not.
