Apps, Software and More – Our Office Must-Haves

December 12th, 2013 - Posted by Steve Marks to Miscellaneous.

We use a lot of wonderful applications and bits of software throughout our working (and non-working) day, so we thought we would compile a list of our top nine that we absolutely couldn’t do without and share them with you all!

1. Google Drive

There are lots of different online storage sites out there but we use Google Drive and have done so for a while now. It allows us to collaborate on documents, share files, store backups and more.

2. White Board

Modern technology is great and so is our online calendar, but nothing beats a good old standard whiteboard mounted on the wall. We use some nifty magnetic tape to split the board into little columns, allowing us to map out our week and all our projects. Simple!

3. Google Analytics applications

It’s safe to say we’re addicted to statistics, so when we are out and about we love nothing more than to take a sneaky peek at some of our website stats to see how our sites are performing, not only for us but our clients too.

Our favourite phone apps are “iDashboard” for iOS and “Google Analytics” for Android.

4. Basecamp / Freedcamp

When we have multiple projects on the go with one client, we like to use Basecamp to keep on top of them all. This allows us to share files and update each project individually, all under one roof! Basecamp requires a paid subscription but if you’re looking for a free alternative then we recommend Freedcamp.

5. Evernote

The worst thing about inspiration is that it generally comes at a time that is most inconvenient. We love Evernote and store everything from to do lists to Blog ideas. We also have a shared notebook for the business so if we come across any marketing ideas or things that we like, we can clip it straight from our internet browsers with the clipper tool or add it to our notebook. It also synchronises across all platforms and at the moment, 02 customers can bag Evernote Premium for free for a whole year!

6. Spotify

The working day wouldn’t be complete without some music. With our ecclectic music tastes, we like to take it in turns with our Spotify Playlists. We pay for premium to skip out on the adverts and it means we can listen to most things we have the urge for at the touch of a button.

7. Papermate Flexigrip pen’s

When we allocate tasks, sometimes we like to do it on paper – with colours! As a general rule of thumb, we are each assigned a different colour pen which allows us to see who is doing what at a glance. Not that there is anything outstandingly special about Papermate, we just like how silky they are to write with when we sometimes swap our keyboards for a pen.

8. Skype

Skype is probably one of our most used daily tools. We use it for clients but also for swapping files between ourselves. We recently purchased a Skype phone number and tried out their credit system for making phone calls so expect more on that when we have really got to grips with it and tested it out some more!

9. Quickfile

This is another tool which we’re heavily reliant upon. It’s a free programme that allows you to create invoices, log purchases and also grants access to your clients so they can view their invoices. It definitely makes our tax return’s a lot easier!

Do you have any gadgets, software or applications that help you get through each day? If so, we’d love to hear about them.
